gg_stats problem

I have installed the latest version of gungame5 and everything is working fine.
However I have gg_stats 1 in my cfg file and the server creates winnersdata.db when it loads.
I have also chmodded this file and its directory to 777 but no winners are ever recorded.
Is there some debug log I could check to see if there are any errors writing to the file ?

edit:
i have even downloaded the modified gungamelib.py and pickle.py and it still doesnt record the winners
